There are so many different strategies to a Romans 1 bible study, and really any bible study for that matter. As our study progresses, I hope to offer some ideas of different ways you may want to go about studying the word of God. Please comment below with your favorite ways to study the Bible and with any other tips or ideas! You don’t need to be a new believer to look at the Bible in a new light. If you are alive, God still has something to say to you. What is it?
First, read through the entire first chapter of Romans. What stood out to you the most? If you new to Bible study, and interested in a step-by-step method, read on. If you consider yourself an old pro and would rather get right to my narrative devotional, click here to jump to page 2.
As I read through a passage, I often keep a notebook close at hand, often rewriting the verses that stand out to me, and why they do. This helps me to internalize the verses, meditating and praying on the words to see what jumps out to me fresh in each new reading.
Here are some a list of verses I specifically noted, and some thoughts to consider:
- How am I set apart for God’s work?
- How am I sharing the good news of Jesus with others?
Verse 4 – “By the power of the Holy Spirit, he was appointed to be the mighty Son of God because he rose from the dead. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.”
- The same spirit that lives in us! (Romans 8:11)
Verse 5 – “I received God’s grace because of what Jesus did so that I could bring glory to him.”
Verse 8 – “People all over the world are talking about your faith”
- WOW! I want that type of faith!
Verse 9 – “I serve God with my whole heart. I preach the good news about his Son.”
- What does that look like?
16 – “I am not ashamed of the good news. It is God’s power. And it will save everyone who believes. It is meant first for the Jews. It is meant also for those who aren’t Jews.”
Verse 17 – “. . . becoming right with God depends on a person’s faith. It is written, ‘Those who are right with God will live by faith.’ (Habakkuk 2:4)”
- What does it mean to ‘live by faith’?
Verse 19 – “The Truth about God is plain to evil people – He has made it plain” or obvious – in nature:
- Platypuses (platypi?)
- Laminin! – protein molecule
- ^ (These are some things that I consider to be so amazing, I am shocked there are still atheists out there!)
and Verse 20
Verse 24 – “So God let them go . . . ”
- He turned them over to their sins, sexual sins (fornication – sex outside of one man and one woman marriage)
Verses 29 – 32: Wow! Intense . . .
