What is love?
What does it mean to “be saved?” And why do I need saving anyway?
The general gospel message can be summed up in the most famous John 3:16 verse: Essentially, that God loves the world and man and wants to be in full communion with his creation. But man (Adam) sinned, and brought on a curse to all after him that they too would sin.
You see, God is holy, so sin separates us from Him. But God’s love is greater than the curse. His love is so great, that from the very beginning of time, He has prepared for us a way out of the punishment we deserve. All sin must be paid for with blood. But God sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place, to suffer in our place, to shed his own blood for us and our sins, so we wouldn’t have to. And His sacrifice, once and for all, was enough. All we need to do is believe in Jesus and what He did for us, and we will be saved – saved from eternal punishment and separation from God (hell) – saved from eternally paying for our sins that we could never repay.
“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him. Anyone who believes in him is not judged. But anyone who does not believe is judged already. They have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
